IPL's history spans over 30 years. Founded in 1967 by Karl Amlauer, a UCLA trained chemist and industry veteran, the company specialized in radiation source production and custom source design. IPL was purchased in January 1999 by Eckert & Ziegler AG, of Berlin, Germany. IPL employs approximately 100 people in four Southern California facilities, three in Burbank and one in Valencia. The professional staff is primarily composed of degreed chemists and engineers. IPL sells its products in a variety of ways, direct to users, through distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and in some cases, private labels.
